Sierra Cantabria 'CVC - 150 Aniversario ' 4th Edition Conjunto de Varias Cosechas Tempranillo Rioja Pre-Arrival

Winemaker Notes:  The Eguren family dreamt up Sierra Cantabria CVC in 2005 when they were impacted by a bottle of spectacular Rioja from the 1925 vintage. They were startled by the wines youth, intensity, and complexity even after 80 years in bottle. They learned that the particular wine in question had been aged for up to 15 years in barrel (a percentage new), and they set out to produce their own long lasting Rioja. Each release of CVC is a blend of three separate vintages. Each vintage ages separately for an average of 84 months (7 years) in new French barrique. The blend is assembled before bottling.

Jeb Dunnuck - "A wine inspired by older vintages that spent an incredibly long time in barrel (sometimes up to 7 to 8 years), the NV (blend of 2007, 2011, and 2015 vintages) Sierra Cantabria CVC 4th Edition / 150th Aniversario is 100% Tempranillo that was aged for 90 months before being bottled in June 2022. Red and black currants, vanilla oak, incense, lead pencil, and graphite are just some of its nuances, and it's a rich, medium to fullbodied, concentrated wine with no shortage of tannins, terric balance, and a great nish. Vinous - "The NV Sierra Cantabria CVC 150 Aniversario 4th Edition is a blend of Tempranillo wines from 2010, 2011 and 2015. Sourced from a vineyard planted in 1960 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, the component wines aged for an average of 10 years. With a purple hue and a bricked sheen, the 4th Edition reveals balsamic and oaky notes on the nose, accompanied by hints of wild and dried herbs. Dry and juicy, the palate is compact, classic and pure, lingering long with an evolved finale. This rare wine pays homage to the Rioja wines of the 1920s, where blending years was a method to balance quantity and quality between the vintages." (12.23)
