Winemaker Notes: This Barolo comes from the homonymous vineyard of Monvigliero that can be properly considered the “grand cru” of Verduno village. This cru was first vinified in 2000 vintage and blended intothe Barolo until the 2007 vintage when this vineyard has been bought by the Scavino family and made as a single cru. Great finesse and aromatic complexity, distinctly floral spicy, savory, balsamic in its expression. The nose is vivid and compound. The texture is focused. An extremely elegant cru, feminine and full of character.
Village: Verduno
M.G.A. Vineyard: Monvigliero
Altitude, Exposure: 310 mt, south-east
Soil: predominantly limestone, light colored mixed with chalky veins quite characteristic of in this commune.
Planting year: 1968-2005

CRITICAL ACCLAIM

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "The Paolo Scavino 2018 Barolo Monvigliero offers dried rose and smoky notes with crushed stone and peppery spice. This is a steady and careful production of 4,800 bottles, and the wine has a lean or compact mouthfeel and a special personality with rigid pinpoint aromas that rise tall from the glass. Best After 2024"

James Suckling - "Lovely, inviting nebbiolo nose with fresh and dried cherries, colored with pungent, sous-bois notes of dried roses and truffley mushrooms. Full-bodied, yet very tight and fresh with a solid tannin framework. Super-fresh and flavorful, but will this will need some time to soften a little. Solid wine for the vintage."
