2019 Benanti 'Pietra Marina' Etna Bianco Superiore Sicily
Winemaker Notes: From day one Giuseppe Benanti has nurtured the ambition to demonstrate the enormous potential of the Carricante di Milo. This wine, whose name recalls the volcanic landscape, the flint, the minerality and finally the sapidity of the sea breeze, is now considered one of the most typical, elegant and long-lived whites on the Italian wine scene.
At sight it is straw yellow with bright green reflections. Intense on the nose, rich, broad, complex, fruity with hints of orange blossom and ripe apple. On the palate it is dry and mineral, with a marked acidity, pleasant sapidity and a remarkable aromatic persistence with an aniseed and almond aftertaste.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Vinous - "The 2019 Etna Bianco Superiore Pietra Marina captivates. It’s perfumed and floral, with enriching notes of almond paste and confectionery spice that perfectly accentuate a smoky core of white peaches. There’s more lift on the palate, but it's a little backward, possessing wiry textures and an intense mineral core that adds depth to its citrus-inflected orchard fruits. Nervous acidity forces the mouth to water and maintains a dazzling freshness as inner florals resonate and a sour lime concentration settles in. The 2019 is just an infant today, compact yet complex, balanced and loaded with character. It will be a gorgeous Etna Bianco to follow over the next decade or more. "
