CRITICAL ACCLAIM

James Suckling - "Precise, textural and long with aromas of dried thyme, cherries, forest berries, dried herbs and crushed black pepper. It’s medium- to full-bodied with fine, firm tannins and fresh acidity. Lively and agile with a succulent core of sour cherries and white pepper at the center. A crushed stone character brings a mineral touch to it and onto the long, focused finish..." (1.24)

Jeb Dunnuck - "Youthful and ripe ruby red in color, the 2020 Barolo Villero has a fantastic bouquet of pure ripe raspberries, wet stones, fresh roses, and sweet sage. Medium-bodied, it’s approachable up front and balanced, with refined tension through the mid-palate, fine tannins, and refreshing acidity. Weightless, with good ripeness, it’s long on the palate and has a lasting perfume of dried apricot. Absolutely lovely , it’s going to offer a wide drinking window over the next 15 or so years." (5.24)

Vinous - "The 2020 Barolo Villero offers up blue fruit, lavender, spice, mint, new leather and grilled herbs. Brisk acids and veins of tannin confer freshness. It will be interesting to see if the 2020 softens in bottle. Today, it is decidedly nervous. Even so, the Villero has real palate presence and notable explosive energy." (11.23)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "Showing more tobacco, leather, cranberry and freshly-tilled soil, this is a bolder style of Nebbiolo. The Oddero 2020 Barolo Villero has an interlude of sweet cherry and plump fruit, but then it veers toward tart fruit flavors followed by fine powdery tannins. Smoothness is a theme that continues throughout. It ages in large French oak casks and spends six months in cement vat to better integrate. Production is 6,000 bottles." (5.24)
