2021 Luigi Giordano 'Cavanna' Barbaresco

Winemaker Notes:  The Cavanna vineyard is the one held most dear by the Giordanos: it was the first to be vinified as a single-vineyard by Luigi in 1971 and, ever since, the family has been the only producer to produce a Barbaresco bearing the vineyard designation. Cavanna is the subzone closest to the center of the village of Barbaresco, tucked just below the historic castle of Barbaresco. This amphitheater’s combination of sand and clay yields the sort of red-cherry fruit and fine tannin so associated with Nebbiolo, its ur-characterics. For such classic traits, vinification follows suit and is totally traditional: maceration for 20-25 days in stainless-steel tanks before ageing 14-18 months in large, Slavonian-oak barrels averaging 25 years old.
