2024 Gaja Ca’Marcanda Vistamare Tuscany
Winemakers Notes: Intense floral notes of acacia and linden flowers. The refreshing presence of Fiano gives notes of fern, musk and menthol. On the palate, it is fresh and compact with notes of bergamot, pear, nectarine and white currant. Then it shifts toward a more mineral and spicy character, with notes of flint, rosemary, saffron. The wine gets riper in the finish with hints of mango, almond and fig leaves.
“Vistamare” literally means sea view and is often used by the coastal hoteliers to entice would-be guests, even though their rooms may only offer a limited view of the Mediterranean. The vineyards used for Vistamare actually enjoy just such a panoramic view of the Tuscan horizon.
While the development of the Bolgheri area continues to be one of Italy’s greatest success stories, its vineyards are still relatively young and continue to evolve. The blend change for Vistamare was driven by this vineyard exploration on the estate and the Gaja family’s unending quest for quality, as they continue to improve their own vineyard plantings and experiment with different varieties on these soils.
