RAEN, Great Pinot Noir from California Royalty
With Special Guest Carlo Mondavi
Friday, November 20, 2020, 6:30 eastern, 5:30 Central

We’re thrilled to welcome Carlo Mondavi, grandson of American wine industry icon Robert Mondavi. Carlo will speak to us about his elegant Pinot Noirs from the extreme, very cool Sonoma Coast. RAEN (Research in Agriculture & Enology, Naturally) is a domaine founded in 2013 by Carlo and his brother Dante. RAEN is a play on the spelling of RAIN, absorbed by the vines, and sweetened by the sun in the berries. The beautiful fragrance and finesse of RAEN Pinots speak to impeccable fruit sources, native yeast, whole cluster fermentations, and “reverting back to what we might have seen when our family began farming and working with Pinot Noir 100 years ago.” Antonio Galloni of Vinous comments, “These Pinots from RAEN are superb. Frankly, I had a hard time moving on from these wines as they were so deeply impressive from the moment I first tasted them.”

PAUL HOBBS INTERNATIONAL VISIONARY
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 3RD, 5:30PM CENTRAL

As busy as Paul Hobbs is making wine on 4 continents, we’ll have the great pleasure of his company! For more than 40 years, Paul has created stunningly innovative, successful wine projects across the globe. From his childhood home on a farm in Upstate New York, Paul’s story in wine began at Robert Mondavi Winery, and one year later on the inaugural team of Opus One, then running the Simi winery in Sonoma and Catena in Argentina. One of the first “flying winemakers”, Paul was a pioneer in helping launch Malbec’s meteoric rise in Mendoza. His winery Viña Cobos was established in 1998, with vineyards sourced in Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley. Now based in Sebastopol, California, he founded his eponymous winery in 1991 and CrossBarn in 2000, converting an old apple-processing facility. Paul’s international partnerships span France’s Cahors region, Armenia, and Galicia in Spain. His soon-to-be launched Riesling project in New York’s Finger Lakes is a tribute to his family’s roots. We’ll hear all about his evolving winemaking style and vision, first-hand!
