2017 Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino Tuscany
Winemaker Notes: This is a very elegant and perfumed expression of Sangiovese with lifted floral aromas that recall blue flower and dried wild rose. Beyond those delicate tones, you get cherry, cassis, strawberry, cedar, stone dust, and wet earth. The symmetry here is impeccable, as is its purity of fruit, with fine-grained, dusty tannins that result in a structured finale. Organically grown
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is delicate and fine with aromas of wild cherry, licorice, grilled herb and pressed violet. It brings on more power to the palate with medium-rich concentration, pretty freshness and silky tannins. The fine tannic management stands out here, as does its contained alcohol. In a vintage that sees very high alcohol levels across the board, Le Ragnaie should be congratulated on maintaining a more moderate 13.5% alcohol content. Winemaking sees cement and large oak casks."
Decanter - "Le Ragnaie’s ‘entry-level’ Brunello wasn’t impoverished by the estate’s single-vineyard bottlings. It shows dried pressed violets and plump crushed cherry right out of the gate, with great purity. The tannins are firm and grippy, giving support to a substantial core and crunchy finish."
Wine Spectator - "This red offers a mix of cherry, strawberry, floral and earth aromas and flavors. Tips to the dry, dusty tannins in the balance, but overall this lingers with hints of fruit and a sense of grace."
