2018 Domaine Josmeyer 'Un Certain Regard' Pinot Gris Alsace

Winemaker Notes: This magnificent white wine is defined above all by the finesse of its acidity carried by the very old vines of this plot. Its firm and tense structure contrasts with the natural breadth of the grape variety. We find aromas of white flowers, sometimes anise, aromatic herbs and white fruits. The length is always saline and can evolve towards more earthy tones. A wine with over 15 years of potential that will age beautifully in the bottle, developing rich aromas of ripe fruit and spices. The grapes for this dry Pinot Gris come from a single vineyard plot that is 80 years old - the oldest vines in the estate. The harvest is manual and the fermentation spontaneous, ending in a small century-old oak cask where the wine ages on its fine lees for several months until bottling.

Right in the heart of Alsace, near Colmar, our wine-estate was founded in 1854 by our ancestor Aloyse Meyer. Since 2009, we are 2 sisters walking in our father’s path and pursuing this familial adventure. Isabelle is the winemaker and me Céline, is managing the estate. Our vineyard is in organic and biodynamic culture since 2000. Our 90 plots are about 25 ha and are located in the plain or on hills, including the famous “Grands Crus” hills named “Hengst” and “Brand”. Hand-picked and carefully sorted the grapes are then crushed slowly in pneumatic presses
