2020 Chateau La Vieille Cure Red Blend Fronsac

Why Madeline Triffon, M.S. loves this wine: "A perfumed beauty, with dried violet and rose petal scents.  “The Old Parsonage” is so dense and complete, with ripe plummy red and black fruit.  Young, but showy and smooth.  A Right Bank steal at its best! Critic Jane Anson refers to its “great aging potential, and a splash of glamor.”  75% Merlot, with the balance mostly Cab Franc, grown on a plateau right on the river with Pomerol immediately to the east."

Winemaker Notes:  Chateau La Vieille Cure 2020 is an exquisite Bordeaux from the Fronsac region. Its twenty-hectare vineyard produces wines known for their freshness thanks to limestone-rich soil. The 40+ year old vines are carefully hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and aged in 30% new oak barrels. Enjoy textbook Bordeaux of superior quality with the capacity to age gracefully for decades.

CRITICAL ACCLAIM

James Suckling - "A pretty deep and broad-shouldered Fronsac with impressive intensity. Nose has lots of blackcurrants, dark cherries, some cocoa powder and a hint of cigar box. Full-bodied on the palate with dense yet creamy tannins that will take a few more years to integrate. Lengthy and pretty plush. An outstanding Fronsac."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "Deep purple-black in color, the 2020 La Vieille Cure storms out of the glass with powerful notions of plum preserves, blueberry pie and baker's chocolate, followed by suggestions of star anise, ground cloves and eucalyptus. The medium to full-bodied palate is jam-packed by rich, ripe black and blue fruits, backed up by firm, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and opulent."

Jeb Dunnuck - "Always a winner, I can't remember the last vintage of this cuvée that didn't put a smile on my face. The 2020 Chateau La Vieille Cure has lots of up-front cassis and black cherry fruits to go with complex floral, lead pencil, and green tobacco-like aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, seamless, and elegant, it has the vintage's concentrated, pure style front and center. Best After 2023."

Decanter - "New owners for a few years now at La Vieille Cure, and it continues to be one of the go-to names in the appellation. This is a little closed down right now, the oaking a little evident, but the big berry fruits charm their way in after a few moments, as do charred cedar notes and grippy tannins. Enjoyable and confident and overall one of the Fronsacs that is tasting great."

Wine Spectator - "This has a nice fresh edge to the mix of damson plum and bitter cherry coulis notes, while leather, tobacco and savory hints fill in the background. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2023."
