2017 Roy Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Winemaker Notes: The classic and elegant 2017 Roy Estate Cabernet Sauvignon evokes a globe-spanning journey from Napa Valley’s remote hillsides to Bordeaux’s Left Bank. The wine’s core notes of stone and wet earth are a clear expression of the volcanic soils found on our single vineyard site—it is this mineral quality that is highly reminiscent of the Left Bank’s finest. From this bedrock, the wine blooms to present an exotic bouquet of cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, toasted oak and dried violets.
Lively on the palate, it offers dense raspberry, blueberry and blackcurrant framed by vibrant acidity and persistent layers of firm tannins. The defining freshness of the 2017 vintage is exquisitely preserved here while also demonstrating substantial power. Nowhere is this more evident than in the wine’s lingering finish that recalls freshly roasted coffee beans and cocoa. The wine delivers great pleasure today owing to its expressiveness, but its promise will only grow for the next 15-20 years.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Jeb Dunnuck - "Made by the team of Philippe Melka, this deep purple-hued beauty boasts a great nose of crème de cassis and blackberry fruits as well as classic Cabernet graphite, spice, tobacco, and a kiss of cedar. Concentrated, balanced, and just beautifully done, it’s a 2017 that’s well worth seeking out."
