2022 Left Foot Charley 'Cremant of Michigan' Sparkling Wine Michigan
Winemaker Notes: We whole-cluster press the fruit from these vineyards and only choose the heart of the pressing (called the cuvée) for the fermentation. The cuvée is the purest of the juice and has the most delicate texture. This practice minimizes bitterness and accentuates fruit qualities. Once the cuvée has settled, we put the wine through a second fermentation in a closed and pressurized tank (called cuve close or Charmat method) to build the bubble structure. The wine is then bottled young and meant to be enjoyed within the first few years.
Crémant is a French term used for any sparkling wine not made in the Champagne region. Ours hails from the great vineyards of Northern Michigan. Pinot Blanc from Old Mission Peninsula and Chardonnay from Benzie County are grown specifically for this wine
